Comite River Diversion Canal | U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
Precision Construction served as a key contractor on the Comite River Diversion Canal project for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, executing both the Proposed Channel and Segment 4 packages. This massive flood control initiative required extensive heavy civil construction across multiple phases to create a critical diversion system for the Baton Rouge area.
Our scope began with clearing and grubbing operations across approximately 100,000 acres, followed by excavation of roughly 1.2 million cubic yards of material and placement of 650,000 cubic yards of embankment. The project also included installation of approximately 320,000 tons of stone for erosion control and channel stabilization.
A major component of our work involved constructing a 40,000 cubic yard concrete structure supported by an extensive foundation system including approximately 11,000 square feet of sheet piles and 142,000 linear feet of H-piles. Our team also tied existing canal systems into the new diversion infrastructure through strategic drainpipe connections, ensuring seamless integration with the region’s existing drainage network.
The scale and complexity of this project demonstrated our capabilities in large-scale earthwork, deep foundation systems, and mass concrete placement, all executed to protect one of Louisiana’s most flood-prone communities.
