Pavement starts below the surface
Good pavement depends on what is underneath it. Because heavy civil earthwork is one of our core capabilities, we can build the subgrade and base ourselves instead of inheriting someone else's. On First Solar's 550,000 square foot manufacturing facility, our site package included 4,000,000 square feet of lime stabilization, 1,500,000 square feet of cement-treated subbase and 40,000 tons of aggregate: the site was graded, stabilized and given a paved subbase by a single contractor.
Paving inside a turnkey package
On Project Eagle, an Amazon distribution facility, paving was part of a turnkey civil and structural scope that also covered site import, crushed stone base, lime-stabilized soils, storm drainage, water and sanitary sewer, building foundations and tilt-wall construction. With one self-performing contractor responsible for the dirt, the drainage and the concrete, grades and drainage are planned together, which is what keeps water off the pavement for the life of the facility.
We self-perform with in-house crews and owned equipment, and our excavators and dozers run Trimble Earthworks GPS, so the base is built to the design grade before the first truck of concrete arrives.

Paving often happens while other trades are still working on site. Every job runs under the same safety program: daily job safety analyses before each task, routine site inspections, enforced PPE and full compliance with OSHA regulations, set from the top of the company down. With more than 300 jobs completed, that program is part of what owners get with every package we build.
